Frontier Intelligence

About Frontier Intelligence

Frontier Intelligence is a persistent space MMO in development, built around meaningful distance, physical ships, consequential discovery, and planned conversational agent play.

Frontier Intelligence is a persistent, shared space MMO in development. Scott is its single indie developer and creative director. The game combines the ambition of a galaxy at true astronomical scale with the close detail of owning, equipping, and operating a physical ship.

The game being built

The intended experience includes exploration, trade, and a place in a world shared with other captains. Travel takes meaningful time; light-year voyages can take hours. A discovery could change a captain's circumstances, even early in their experience. Valuable resources and unusual, powerful, one-off items are part of that direction, with reward details still to be designed and balanced.

The working foundations

The reviewed Mac development build has working v1 inventory and cargo, physical ship fitting, engineering, impulse travel and Surge, and air traffic control arrival, docking, and departure. An astronomical Atlas and equipment-based scanning with finite report storage also exist. Full MMO and cross-platform validation remain ahead.

Station service prototypes are under review. The complete trading journey, report market, and mining systems remain work ahead. The roadmap separates the current foundations from those planned connections.

Playing through your own agent

Player-agent access is a core planned feature. You would connect a compatible personal AI agent to the running game client and give it instructions through conversation so it could operate your captain for you. The current design requires the client to stay running and connected. Implementation and application compatibility remain to be verified.

A conversational pilot provided with the game is intended too; its placement in the main game or a separate or companion client remains undecided.

The different kinds of intelligence

A player-directed external agent acts on your behalf. Machine Intelligence, or MI, is ship automation supplied by equipment. True AI people are intended autonomous individuals in the game world, with their own histories and relationships. These are distinct parts of the design.

The personal inspiration

Trade Wars was Scott's first space game. Frontier Intelligence pays it a light personal homage while building an original universe and identity.

Development status

Frontier Intelligence is in development, with a public release date still to be announced. The journal explains the thinking behind the game, while gameplay updates record concrete progress and the roadmap shows what remains to be built.
